Preparing Kids for a Smooth Photoshoot Experience

Kids are little bundles of energy, curiosity, and—let’s be honest—unpredictability. But that’s what makes photographing them so special! The key to a smooth session is preparation, patience, and a sprinkle of flexibility.

First things first: timing is everything. Try to schedule your session around nap times and snack breaks. A well-rested, well-fed child is a happy child. Before the session, chat with your little ones about what’s going to happen. Make it sound exciting—like an adventure or a game. Let them know it’s just about having fun with their favorite people (and me tagging along with a camera).

Bring along a few “just in case” items: a favorite snack, a small toy, or even a blanket they love. These little comforts can work wonders if we hit a fussy moment. And here’s the most important part: let them be themselves. If they want to run, twirl, or make silly faces, let them. Those are the moments that make photos come alive.

Trust me, I’ve seen it all—from shy snuggles to full-on tickle fights—and every moment is a treasure waiting to be captured.
